Cheers to Ten Years

We took our first big “airplane” trip with both boys and it was amazing!

The Bearded One and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this June with a vow renewal ceremony in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was such a beautiful experience and we had a wonderful time!

We have visited Puerto Vallarta previously for our first wedding anniversary and fell in love with the culture, the people, and the beaches. Since we enjoyed it so much, we decided it was the perfect place to celebrate our 10-year vow renewal.

We have traveled to several parts of Mexico and we chose Puerto Vallarta specifically because of it’s location on the Pacific coast and the fact that it doesn’t have the same summer time sargassum blooms as the Cancún areas.

We started planning our trip a little over 18 months in advance to give all of our family and friends a chance to join us (which didn’t go as planned but that’s a story for another time).

The first time we stayed in PV we spent a week at the Hyatt Ziva. We enjoyed the Hyatt, however, we felt that Hard Rock Vallarta was more kid friendly and decided to give it a shot.

Technically the resort is a little outside of Puerto Vallarta; it’s located in on the beautiful beaches of Nuevo Vallarta, in the center of Riviera Nayarit,Mexico. The resort was beautiful, had great amenities, delicious food and wonderful staff. The only negative I’d say would be the construction. As of July 2026 they are closing the resort down to renovate it for six months. (After seeing the renovated room my mom stayed in, I’m excited to see what they do!)

Resort Days

Arriving at the resort was surprisingly stress-free. I have to say, the boys did fantastic on the plane. We were also joined by one of our favorite couples (my incredible bestie and her wonderful husband) and my fabulous mom, which made the trip even more memorable.

We spent the majority of our time enjoying the pool, swimming at the beach, and just relaxing at the resort. Of course our little guys are water babies and absolutely love to splash and play. This resort was very kid friendly; it had a waterslide, a kiddie pool and a ton of beach activities such as kayaks, boogie boards, and paddle boards. I lost count of how many times the boys slide down the slide (myself and The Bearded One also joined in) !

Pool service was fantastic. The staff was friendly and our cups stayed full. The kids loved the pizzeria by the pool and we all enjoyed the lunch buffet set up daily.

For a big name resort, I was a little nervous the food would be average, however, we enjoyed pretty much everything. Surprising, my favorite was the Italian restaurant Ciao!

Excursion: City Tour

On our third day we decided to book an excursion to go explore the city. The Bearded One and I loved PV the first time and did our own little wandering, but we were in no way experts. We decided a city tour was probably the best bet for our little guys (a little too young for snorkeling and ATVs). We decided to book a private tour so we didn’t have to stick with a group, and I’m glad we did.

The tour started out in the Malecon, which is essentially the giant board walk. I honestly wish we would have just spent the day here, however, our tour guide had other things in mind.

After the Malecon we saw The Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a small candy store where the boys get paletas and The Bearded One got crickets (I’m not kidding) then a silver factory/shop after heading into the mountains for the last leg of our tour.

The mountains were beautiful and along the way we stopped for a little tequila tasting and then at a small family owned restaurant for an authentic, delicious lunch.

All in all I would say the tour was very informative and gave us an opportunity to experience the culture of Puerto Vallarta. It was different than what I expected, but we all had a great time and our guide was fantastic (the boys slept solid on the way back to the resort!)

Vow Renewal

While at the resort, we planned a small vow renewal ceremony and it was perfect. As some of you may know, we were married in Mexico and it poured down rain, so we didn’t get our toes in the sand beach ceremony. This time, the weather cooperated and we had our perfect little ceremony. Unfortunately, I don’t have all of our pictures yet because I haven’t got them but stay tuned!

Overall, I give Hard Rock Vallarta 8.5/10 and The Bearded One gives it a 9.5/10. The location was perfect, the resort over all was beautiful, and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. We’d love to return after renovations to see the new look!

Lazy Beach Days

We spent our first vacation of the summer at the beach, and of course we had a great time.

Once again we traveled to our favorite little condo in Corpus Christi, right on the beach. Everyday the Bearded One set up our tents and chairs and we basked in the Texas sun with our toes in the sand. Our whole family came with us this year and the boys had so much fun. We played in the sand, painted seashells, fed the seagulls, and braved the ocean with the yucky jellyfish 🪼 (yes we all got stung!)

We only had one day of bad weather so we decided to take the boys to the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. It was fun for the kiddos, lots of history and interactive exhibits for the boys. Plus, teacher get a discount!

We had a fabulous beach trip, as always, and I already miss the salty air!

Pro Beach Tips:

Bring lots of snacks of course
Vinegar helps neutralize a jellyfish sting (thanks lifeguards)!
Bring watercolors to paint seashells
If you check out the museum, you have to eat next door at Railroad Seafood and Brewery (best crab cake I’ve ever had!)

Every Summer Has A Story

Chapter One: The Beach in Corpus

As always we had a fabulous time. Beautiful location, fabulous weather, and my boys were happy.

Chapter 2: San Antonio Hyatt Resort

Of course one vacation just isn’t enough so I had to find something else to do. The bearded one and our boys are happy as long as they are near water and the San Antonio Hyatt Resort is known for its lazy river. After extensive review reading, I book us a suite for a couple of days and we headed on down to SA. The drive wasn’t bad, our 3 year old and 1 year old are surprisingly great car riders. After loading up on snacks at Buccee’s we finally arrived and hurried on down to the pool and river. To be honest I was slightly underwhelmed. Yes the resort had a beautiful lazy river to float around in, but that was about it. They did have a few other features like a water slide and tiny kiddie pool, I think I was just wishing for a larger pool to hang out in, or an indoor pool would have been nice. Prices for everything (food, drinks, souvenirs etc…) we’re expensive, as to be expected at a resort. All in all we did end up having a great time. Chapter 3: Road Trip

Our finally adventure was to Bartlesville, OK. I know what you’re thinking, …why?! Well we had the best reasons, to see family of course! It was the perfect in-between stop to catch up with relatives. Before we headed to good ole Bartlesville we made a 4th of July pit stop in Dallas to visit more family and celebrate the holidays. This road trip was pretty long for the boys but they did great. We stopped frequently for snacks, potty breaks, and lunch. When we finally arrived our room was ready and so was the pool (of course we had to swim). Bartlesville is actually a cute little town. It has lots of yummy restaurants and original shops downtown, which were all within walking distance to our hotel. I also found a cute little kiddie park with amusement rides which was super fun! If you’re ever in the area you also have to check out the aquarium in Jenks, OK. It was one of the best we’ve ever visited (hands on exhibits, not to crowed, lots to do). All in all, we enjoyed our little stay in Oklahoma.

Chapter Four: Let’s Stay Home

This summer was full of great memories and lots of laughs. No matter where we go I know I will always have the best time because I’m with my boys. My favorite place in the whole wide world will always be wherever they are.

Much Needed Getaway

This was a well deserved, much needed, beach vacation. After a tremulous end to our year, full of change and the unknown, we throughly enjoyed our stress free week away from it all. I honestly feel that the salty ocean air and sand between my toes, brings new perspectives on what is truly important in our lives. There’s no where else I’d rather be than on vacation with my boys.

I know Texas beaches get a bad rap but we really do love Corpus Christi. We’ve spend countless hours on the murky beaches of Galveston, which are nothing compared to the clear, clean beaches of Corpus.

We stumbled upon our vacation spot by chance a few years ago. We were looking for a place to take baby O and had already attempted Galveston. I researched beachfront condos on the coast and found El Constante Condos on North Padre Island in CC. We were presently surprised with the locations, amenities, and cleanliness of our condo and have been returning ever since ( this was year three).

It can be kind of daunting taking a toddler and baby to the beach but I think we pretty much have it figured out. The most important aspects of baby beach travel are 1-sunscreen 2-shade 3-snacks and 4-toys. Once you have those four figured out it’s smooth sailing.

We did our best to stick to a schedule and our boys loved very minute of beach, pool and family time. We can’t wait for our next end of June vacation! Stay tuned for something new.

Beach Bound with the Boys

Our first family of four trip was a success! 4 1/2 hours on the road and 3 days at the beach seemed a little daunting but we all survived and had a great time.

We decided to stick rather close to home and adventure down to Corpus Christi. I know Texas beaches get a bad rap but we visited last year and found the perfect little condo on the beach. The water was much clearer than good old Galveston and we were steps away from the ocean.

I have to admit I was nervous about taking our 3 month old on a 4 1/2 hour road trip but he did amazingly well. We stopped frequently, I occasionally had to crawled in to the backseat to entertain the boys but it all worked out.

Pro Tip: stop frequently, don’t rush the trip, provide snacks and entertainment

Our second concern was taking a 3 month old and a toddler to the beach. How long would they last? How do we protect them from the heat? The sun? Well, we figured that one out too! We lathered them up with sunscreen and threw on protective swim wear. We decided to just stay in the beach for about 90 minutes at a time, which was pretty much all the boys could really handle. We also found a company that you could rent beach gear from. They came at 8:00AM to set up a canopy and beach chairs. It worked out perfectly. All we had to carry down yo the beach were toys, towels, and the babies. We spent mornings and afternoons splashing in the waves, napping in the beach, and building sand castles for little O to knock down 🙂

Pro Tip: Rent beach equipment, it might cost a little more but it’s so worth it! You have more time to enjoy with your kiddos and you don’t have to worry about carrying all the extra junk to the beach.

Overall we had a pretty great time. Baby L enjoyed his first beach vacation and Little O soaked up the sun and sand.

I’m not ready for summer to be over, not even a little bit. After spending so much quality time with my littles I am devastated to return to work, especially given the circumstances this year. The passion and drive I once had for my careers is minimal in comparison to the passion I have for my little boys. Some days I dream about just staying home with my boys but I have so many great adventures and plans in the works for this upcoming year. I pray my boys stay happy and healthy and I make it through this school year to enjoy our next greatest adventure.

Another Summer in the Books

Summer is my absolute favorite time of the year. I work exponentially hard throughout the school year so I can relax and enjoy my vacations, which is exactly what we did this year.

From Mexico to the Texas coast, we had quite a few adventures with our little man in tow.

Corpus Christi

After Mexico we decided venture somewhere a little more local. Usually we enjoy South Padre Island in the summer but we decided to try our luck in Corpus Christi. I’ve heard good and bad things about CC and honesty, we enjoyed our trip and we will definitely be back. I found a great little beachfront Air B&B that we really loved. The only bummer was all the rain! But, even with the torrential down pours, we were able to enjoy the beach and explore the Corpus Christi Museum off Science.

Schlitterbahn New Braunfels

We booked a trip to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels early in the spring and honestly, I was only slightly looking forward to it. I did my research and found a ton of toddler activities throughout the parks so I knew there would plenty for our little water baby to enjoy. I on the other hand, am not a fan of water parks. We decided to stay in a little cabin located in the park and the location was great but other than that, I was unimpressed. I think we will save water parks for when baby O gets just a little bit older.

We did however have a pretty good little road trip and stopped at our favorite restaurant in Bastrop, Maxine’s on Main (check it out if you’re every there!)

Galveston

Our final trip of the season was just this past weekend. We decided to join our friends on a little last-minute getaway to Galveston. Of course, it once again rained, but we were still able to soak up the sun, play in the sand, and enjoy our time together.

Unfortunately our sweet little summer is coming to an end but don’t worry, we already have lots of adventures planned for the fall!!!

Baby O’s First Big Trip

They say that traveling is good for the body, mind, and soul and I overwhelmingly agree. We knew from the start that we wanted to instill our love of travel and adventure into our children and in order to do so we started right away. At 6 months baby O was on a 14 hour road trip to Colorado. At 12 months another mini road trip to see Santa. And at 18 months, we decided to take baby O on his first international vacation to Mexico.

The unpredictability of traveling with a little one had me not only apprehensive but very anxious. So many unknowns, would he be okay? Fussy? Sleepy? Throw a fit? I was pretty confident in my ability to calm him down in any situation so we packed up and headed to Mexico with a dozen of our favorite people.

When I planned this international family vacation to celebrate our 5 year anniversary, I wasn’t anticipating a pandemic and I was completely unaware of how traveling with a toddler would be. Overall I was pleasantly surprised! Our first big vacation with our little one was a complete success! 1800+ miles away from home, 4+ hours on a plane, and zero meltdowns; he did so well!

Here are a few things I learned on this trip:

When traveling with a baby/toddler:
- Pack snacks ! Not just for the airplane but for the resort/hotel as well. Baby O eats a lot and frequently. Snack are a necessity at all times of the day!
- Keep them entertained. Whether your little one needs screen time, toys, or books, pack them all!
- We took advantage of baby O being under 2 and he sat in our laps on the plane. Next time he will definitely get his own seat.
- If possible, book the plane ride during baby’s nap schedule. Baby O slept on the plane both ways!
- Pack extra necessities such as sunscreen and diapers. We packed enough but if we needed them, they were expensive at the resort.
- When traveling to Mexico for the summer stay on the pacific side. The other side is swamped with seaweed from May to September. If I would have known this in advance I would have booked Puerto Vallarta instead of the Riviera Maya area.
- Book a local photographer for family photos! It was inexpensive and easy to do.

We couldn’t have asked for a better first big trip with baby O. We soaked up the sun, enjoyed family time, and were able to watch our sweet boy enjoy vacation as much as we do.

Up Next…

Having a baby has been the biggest adventure of our lives and I have loved every single minute of parenthood. But, traveling isn’t quite what it use to be. The Bearded One and I use to spontaneously book an Air B&B, pack an overnight bag, and hop in the car, which is an absolutely impossible task these days.

Don’t get me wrong, we still love to travel, and we plan to take Baby O on endless adventures, but it can get a little tricky these days.

First of all we have to plan our adventures a little better, and account for any little bump in the road. Will he be fussy? When will we need to stop to change a diaper? Can we stop by a restaurant or should we eat in the car? So many questions with a plethora of possible scenarios!

All of those little details can be worked out, we are quite flexible when it comes to travel and preparation. The biggest question is, where can we take a toddler?!

Not all of our old favorite stomping grounds are necessarily toddler friendly. While I’d love to take him to a local brewery, or outdoor concert, it just isn’t possible to expect him to sit still for a lengthy amount of time. Baby O is a wild one and he definitely needs to be entertained at all times. He needs to run and climb and explore his surrounds…which begs the question, where do we take him?!

We do have a few vacations already in the works but we would LOVE some realistic suggestions! (too tiny for theme parks, Disney is out of the question!)

We are for sure going to Mexico on our big Anniversary trip with family and friends, and we are excited and nervous about that one (first plane ride for Baby O)!

We’re also taking him to The Preserve, an elephant sanctuary only a few hours from home. I am super excited about this one and I hope he loves it! (Here’s the link if you’d like to check it out https://g.co/kgs/DhrhAp ).

St. Augustine Beach, FL

Our first time in the Atlantic Ocean and it did not disappoint.

Here are some key observations from our St. Augustine Beach adventure:

The beach was not at all crowded, it huge and we had lots of space to spread out
The beach and town were clean and well taken care of
The food was delicious (Sunset Grill & Antonio’s)
Old Town has great shopping and historical sites
Everyone was friendly, great customer service
Lots of activities, parks, museums, trolley rides, historical tours, etc (we went to old medieval torture museum)
Drive A1A instead of the interstate for better views (we took it down to Daytona Beach)

We fell in love with this southern city the moment we drove down Jones St. (Also known as one of most beautiful streets in the US)

The old oaks dripping in Spanish moss lined the brick laid streets and exemplify the historic homes. This city is rich in history, so much history in fact that we felt compelled to learn all about it on a classic trolley tour.

I found a decently priced day-night trolley package online and decided to indulge a little. We began the Old Town Trolley Tour by hopping on at one of the 15 stops throughout the city. During the 90 minute tour we saw famous monuments, churches, homes, cemeteries, and heard the stories to go with each. The trolley tour allowed you to hop on and off at any stop throughout the day.

We hopped off at City Market for lunch then decided to walk the shady streets of Savannah on our own.

During our own exploration we visited Forsyth Park, the cemetery and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which was absolutely stunning.

Later that evening after a delicious Greek dinner on the river (Olympia Cafe) we hopped back on our night Ghost Tour. The ghost stories told by the conductor were the best part, and we were able to explore the haunted Andrew Lowe house (we didn’t see any ghost 😉).

On our final morning we headed to Tybee Island to see what all the hype was about. It’s a classic little beach town, full of charm, old hotels, family run businesses, and a pretty neat little pier.
